Quickie

The good word of the day? I got on the treadmill again!

My bed is calling me really loudly!

So, here’s what I ate today (sans photos – sorry!)

Breakfast: granola bar (2), 2 egg whites (0)

Snack: apple (1), chai green tea (0)

Lunch: tuna salad w/ mustard & black pepper (3) on a bed of spinach and tomatoes (0), another granola bar (2)

Dinner: ummmm… a protein granola bar (3) – yeah, I wasn’t feeling too hungry AND was lazy.

Total: 11 – that’s not right. I must be forgetting something in my tired state

I made a new batch of protein granola bars (as opposed to the ones I made the other night without protein powder).

I mixed:

  • 2c oats
  • 1/4c chocolate protein powder
  • 1/4c unsweetened coconut
  • 1/4c wheat germ
  • 3 tbsp chocolate chips
  • 1/4c natural peanut butter
  • a few raisins for chewy factor
  • 3/4c cup water

Mixed it together and put it into an 8x8 pan.  It’s in the fridge setting now.  I’ll cut them up and wrap them up tomorrow night. Voila. Chocolate coconut peanut butter protein n’ oat bar!  That’s not a mouthful!  The thing I like about these bars is essentially they are like the infamous “breakfast cookie” – but I have them made and portioned ahead of time. With protein – 3pts. Without protein – 2pts.

The Early Bird Gets the Worm

So, I wasn’t an early bird last night. I couldn’t shut my mind off and couldn’t sleep. At 3am I finally took gravol.  What happened next? It’s a blur, I slept through my alarm and had to rush to work (but made it on time… sans hair being washed!).

Tonight, I am going to bed early… in a mere moment in fact.

Today I ate the following:

Breakfast: granola bar (2), 2 egg whites (0)

Snack: whole grapefruit (2)

Lunch: salmon w/ honey Dijon on a bed of spinach (2)DSCN4573                                as well as leftover Amy's Tomato Bisque Soup (1) w/ 1/4c black beans (1), red onions, black pepper and garlic (0)… with some chunks of baked sweet potato thrown in (2).  THIS was sheer HEAVEN. I could have eaten a whole pot of it. I was so sad when it was over. I don’t know what made me think to throw it together but I will definitely do it again. Snack: coconut Larabar (4)

Dinner: 2pc weight watchers bread (2), egg (2), cheese (2), blue menu ketchup (0)DSCN4578

Water: 3L plus 1L of green teas (strawberry in the AM, chai in the PM!)

Off to bed. I PROMISED Alex I’d get to bed early to jog in the morning.  We have this crazy plan to be healthy and grow old together… guess I better step up to my end of the bargain!

A Healthy Day is A-Okay!

Happy Monday. Let’s hope the rest of the week FLIES by!

Today started out with a jog… which turned into a walk. In true Jen fashion my legs (shins) did not appreciate jogging after such a long time without a real challenge. It was either quit jogging altogether or downgrade to a walk on an incline… so walking on an incline it was. I’ll keep trying to jog, but will walk if necessary.

Nothing too exciting to report today.  So, here’s what I ate:

Breakfast: strawberry granola bar (same recipe as last week minus protein powder) (2), 2 egg whites (0)

Lunch: Weight Watchers toast (1), Blue Menu Salmon (2) made with honey Dijon mustard, vinegar & black pepper (0), topped with 15g light cheese (1) & hot peppers (0) – cooked under the broiler

I had 1c of grapes for dessert (1)

Snack: apple (1)

Dinner: 1/2c quinoa (2), 1c Amy's tomato bisque soup (2), 1/4c black beans (1), red onions, garlic & black pepper (0) – this was soooooo good. I love the soup!!!

When I came home tonight I decided to settle down with some light hot chocolate in my pretty mug from Tara (2)

I’m still here!

Hello.  Welcome to the end of another weekend!

You haven’t seen me since my WI on Thursday. I was up another pound. I deserved it.  I’ve got a lot going on in this pea brain lately… I will spare you the details. Nothing is an excuse for my lack of activity! 

I’ve eaten well this weekend, although have used some flex points (at least they were on healthy food – subway, clif bars, granola bars, healthy mexican pizza, air-popped popcorn).

I planned on jogging both days this weekend. It didn’t happen.  I did, however, do an ab workout this evening. It felt rather nice!

Here’s a shot of one of my protein n’ oat bars from last week. It’s pretty big for 1 bar (3pts).  I made them again tonight but didn’t have protein powder… and I added freeze dried strawberries. I think I miss the vanilla-y flavour the protein powder added.

Here’s today’s cereal. Some kashi vanilla shredded wheat, some pomegranate granola and some freeze dried strawberries.

Breakfast: the above cereal & milk (7)

Lunch: air-popped popcorn (2), 1c grapes (1), 1/2 clif bar (2)

Dinner: my turkey sub!!! (12)

Total: 24

Water: 3L  woohoo!

I’m going to bed at 10pm… and waking up EARLY to jog. Yes sir!

Lentils & Protein Hump Day

Happy Hump day… err… night.

Headed to bed!

My activity is nil. For many various reasons. I am determined to do something about it, but then the next day comes, something else comes up… and BAM. No jog.  I have to get to sleep earlier at night for sure.

I have no idea how I’m going to do at Weigh in tomorrow!!  I’m not feeling so optimistic!

I only have 1 food photo.  Dinner.  Took 1/2c quinoa, put some Amy’s black bean & veggie soup (approx 1/2c) on there, then some salsa and some black beans. Heated it up and ate it. Heaven in my mouth. Soooo GOOD!  There are days I survive without cheese and think I could be vegan… for a week anyway!

So, tonight…. after getting some of my 1000 photos into albums (yes, 2 years of nephew photos add up!  Plus a Vegas trip!).

So, I have a lot of oats in my kitchen. I’ve been dying to make homemade granola bars or even granola (and might this weekend). Last night I read Susan's blog and got inspired. Why not whip up my own version of a non-bake protein n’ oat bar?  So, that’s exactly what I did.

I mixed:

  • 2c oats
  • 1/4c natural peanut butter
  • 2 scoops vanilla protein powder
  • 1/4c raisins
  • 2tbsp each of pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds & unsweetened coconut
  • sprinkle of hulled hemp seeds
  • sprinkle of chia seeds
  • 3/4c water
  • 1.5tsp agave

Mixed it all up and put it in a square pan

I’ve put it in the freezer for now, but will move it to the fridge before bed (in 7min).  I’ve done the calculations. When cut up into 8 bars here’s the stats (roughly) for each bar

  • cals: 155
  • fat: 7g
  • sodium: 133g
  • carbs: 13g
  • sugars: 4g
  • fibre: 2g
  • protein: 9g

Total points per bar? 3

I may have tried a teensy weensy bite of it and may have decided I LOVE it!

RIP Monday!

Crap. Google Picasa spent so much time updating (or I thought it was) that I’m running late and have to get to bed.

Today involved a jog (YAY)… albeit short, but it’s  start…  then I went to work and ran some errands and came home!

Here’s what I ate today…

Breakfast: weight watcher toast (1), 1/2banana (1), 1tbsp natural PB (2) – see yesterday’s photos!

Lunch: flatout wrap (1), tuna salad w/ mustard & relish (1),  red onion (0), hot banana peppers (0), 30g light old cheddar (2) & side of 1c of grapes (1)DSCN4528 DSCN4531

I made a green smoothie for snack… fruit (1), water (0), 1/2scoop vanilla protein powder (1)… and I added some guar and xanthan gums for fun

Dinner: spinach (0), veggies (0), chicken breast (3), EVOO/balsamic dressing (2), apple (1)

Snack at home (I think my headache was caused by not enough food or something!): kashi bar (2)

So, tonight at Walmart I came across new Kashi products!  Check them out!

Fly By Posting

The weekend has flown by. Not surprisingly!  Yesterday was some lounging and then out for sushi with Tara and her husband. What a great night!

Sadly, today did (also) not include any exercise… for no real good reasons! 

At least I’m back to tracking my food (in a tracker and all).  I also signed up for the x-weighted challenge.  There’s some great prizes to be won!  Unfortunately I’m not brave enough to post my weight and measurements!

Here’s some food from the weekend (no sushi photos unfortunately!)

Tara was so sweet last night… she brought me a gift!  First up – a mug which totally suits me!!  I LOVE IT!!!

I decided to try the strawberry tea. It’s so pretty in it’s triangle tea bag and loose leafs inside!DSCN4515

It was really good. Perfectly sweet on its own. I loved it! It was really cool to see the dry leaves expand after the tea had steeped. I thought it was pretty and warranted a photo.  What do you think?DSCN4527

I also tried the icewine tea. It wasn’t as sweet as the strawberry tea… but still sweet enough for me to not have to add anything to it! 

I’ve done cleaning and grocery shopping. I’m currently making meals for the week… because last week I got sick of cooking after a few days.  I’ve got quinoa cooked, chicken breasts steamed, eggs hard-boiling… some tins of Amy’s soup, some black beans, some salsa, some veggies… I see healthy meals in my future this week!

I’m proud to say I ate totally ‘clean’ this weekend (aside from white rice in the sushi.  mmmm… Sushi. I could eat more of it already!).

Happy Monday!  Tomorrow I WILL jog. Mark my word! I should get to bed now so I can get up early (too bad I’m still cooking!).

FAIL

Well, I went back to Weight Watchers tonight after a long 4 week hiatus.  I’m embarrassed at how much weight I gained.

I’m not quite ready to share how much I gained. I apologize.

I have eaten well this week, but the scale is not going down. It would seem the scale doesn’t budge at all for me unless my eating well is combined with exercise… which is what I’m still lacking.

Tonight has included my typical sub… and some raspberry lemonade crystal light in a special cup

It was on clearance at Starbucks the other day… and I happen to have a huge gift card for there… so I spent some of it on a fun cup. It cheered me up tonight.

Oh Weekend, Where Art Thou?

Happy Hump day!

I am SO ready for the weekend. The first week back to work after nearly 3 weeks off is TOUGH.  I slept in AGAIN today. It was slightly easier to wake up though than it was yesterday. I have decided this is my week to get eating back on track and next week will be adding activity back in. I am OFF on the weekend and plan to get on the treadmill with some chick flicks AND I do want to start Jillian Michael’s 30 day shred!

So… today started out with the same banana oatmeal I’ve had all week (6) – just refer back to old posts to see photos!

Next, I had a smoothie well, 1/2 smoothie (1)

Lunch was a spinach & veggie salad (0)

Topped with my new fave tuna salad – this time it was a whole tin of tuna instead of 1/2 tin (3) with mustard & relish & black pepper (0)

I had an Apple Larabar for afternoon snack (3) – yep, apple Larabar is only 3pts!

I managed 4L of water today.

I did not exercise today.

I have washed my face tonight.

I WILL get 8hrs of sleep tonight (bedtime in 40min!)

I took my vitamins today.

No sweating any small stuff today (some annoyance, but what can you do? I just try to let it go… it doesn’t affect me directly!)

Finally on the 2010 goals list… Today I am grateful for no snow while driving home, my H20 mop, the new Pledge Fabric Sweeper, and for my Uncle… who is only an email away and very willing to answer some banking questions I had for him today. He’s a wonderful Uncle!

I leave you with some gum I bought the other day and which I absolutely LOVE… the flavour is yummy and lasts the entire time I chew it (I swear, they aren’t paying me)!!  It’s Trident Layers!
