It really is mind over matter

mindovermatter

So, I had another meeting with my new leader tonight. I was up 2lbs. I earned it… and it was perhaps a gift from mother nature as well… but I definitely could have done more this week.

The meeting this week was focused on learning from our mistakes.

I have decided the biggest mistake I have been making lately is not tracking as I go along in the day and then trying to record it all at the end of the day.  ROOKIE MISTAKE. This week I will be tracking everything as or before I eat it.

Another mistake? Getting off track on the weekend. This weekend I have decided NOT to use any of my weekly points allowance.

Time for BED!

Before I go… thank you to everyone for all of your comments about running. I look forward to keeping you updated on all of the step by step progress for the Couch to 5K plan!!  I plan to start this weekend!

I want to run

My fittest friends run. My dad runs. Lots of people run. I want to be a runner. Seeing people jog on a sunny day… I want to be them. They make it look so easy. When I try to jog/run… I feel pain. My shins hurt so bad I can barely lift my feet off the ground.

My shins don’t always hurt. They get better once I get used to jogging. Right now… they hurt. Today they even hurt on my lunch time walk.

I decided perhaps I’d try buying compression sleeves of some sorts. I went to The Running Room after work to buy some. The very nice lady got asking me some questions and strongly urged me NOT to buy shin sleeves. She thinks I should properly introduce myself to running before I decide if I need a compression sleeve. I decided to heed her advice. She suggested I join them for a free run on either Wednesday nights at 6pm or Sunday mornings at 8:30. I am such a chicken though!

I came home and decided to ask the expert runner herself, Lynn, about her running experience. She recommended the Couch to 5K Program. To be honest, the thought of walking BORES me. BUT, I have decided to try it. My shins need me to take it easy on them… and maybe this will help me in the long run. I will start this weekend. Perhaps one day I will also try the free running group at the running room.

So… as for today’s food…

Breakfast: toast with almond butter, not pictured (5), apple sauce w/ spoonful of apple butter (2)

Snack was an apple at my desk (1)

Lunch was all over the place thanks to a 2 1/2 hour presentation at work. We had a lawyer come in and teach us about privacy/consent. I just LOVE listening to lawyers talk for over 2 hours (for those who don’t know… my beloved is a Lawyer). So… lunch was a taco salad with avocado, weighed and confirmed (2), cheese (2), veggies and salsa (0). Followed by a chocolate pumpkin protein cake (2)

Dinner was lazy… leftover FF cottage cheese (2), banana bread made on the weekend (1) with PB&J frosting (1)

DSCN5354

Dessert was the rest of my Liberte Lemon yogurt (2)

Total: 19

Water: 2L – thank you long-winded Lawyer… my water intake is down because I was stuck in your meeting!

Before we part ways for the night… I want to say a special

Thank you to Jen

for my blogger award… check out her blog! Jen, I will reciprocate tomorrow or this weekend some time!!!

Better late than never?

Last night escaped me. Monday evenings always feel really rushed by the time I get home from work, make meals for the next day and do all the dishes… then I am rushing to get to bed so I can get up early on Tuesday.

Yesterday DID involve a jog.  Today did NOT.  Today involved calling in sick to work and resting all day. I feel better now though.

Highlights of yesterday’s food…

DSCN5307

granola, small banana & unsweetened vanilla almond breeze

DSCN5317

1c homemade black bean soup with a spoonful of fat free cottage cheese and the last bit of spicy basmati & edamame meal

DSCN5318 DSCN5319

Snack was pineapple & strawberries with a mixture of Greek & Lemon Liberte

DSCN5313

Dinner was quinoa, spinach, fish filet, mushrooms & tomato

DSCN5310

Dessert was a pumpkin protein cake with apple butter “filling n’ frosting”

DSCN5316

Unfortunately I hadn’t eaten enough during the day and slightly binged once I got home – popcorn followed by some granola and almond breeze.

Today’s food wasn’t a lot. I had serious headache causing me to feel ill.  When I did feel like eating I was only craving CHEESE!  Mmm… cheese.  Bizarre, I know… but something I’ve always craved.

Breakfast was a small mashed banana with 1/2c granola (3pts) – it’s packed up because I was all ready to go to work when I decided I just couldn’t make it.

DSCN5325

Lunch was a WW bagel, 2 egg whites and 17g light cheddar (3pts total)

DSCN5332 DSCN5331

Snack was a low carb banana bread (1) with 1/2tbsp peanut butter “frosting” (1)– holy crap. SO GOOD!!!!

DSCN5340

Dinner was another 1/2c granola, 1/2c PB puffins and 1/2c almond breeze (3pts total)

Snacks not pictured: another 7pts worth of cheese. No joke… also 1c of salt & vinegar popcorn (1)

Today’s total: 19

Water: 3L

Off to bed for me… the goal is a jog in the morning!

Another weekend over

I had every intention of going to Shoppers Drug Mart today to grab a few things, including pop which is on special. I didn’t end up making it there… which is fine. We don’t need pop!

Here’s breakfast…

DSCN5273

3/4c granola (3), 1c peanut butter puffins (2), small banana (1), 1/2c unsweetened vanilla Almond Breeze (0)

Mixed together…

DSCN5277

Mmmmm… it was yummy

DSCN5274

After breakfast I decided to put a spin on one of April's recipes and made a banana bread. I mixed 1 banana, 1c egg whites, 1c wheat bran, 3/4c fat free cottage cheese, 2 scoops chocolate protein powder, 1/4c raisins, 1/3c coconut, 1tsp stevia. Mix up and pour into an 8x8 pan. Bake at 350F for 30min (I baked it at 300 for 40min). Cutting them in to 8 squares makes them 1pt each.

I snacked on 1 while it was still warm (1)

DSCN5285

Lunch was 1c homemade black bean soup (3), dollop of Greek Liberte (0), with a side of blue menu thins (3), tomato (0), avocado (2), 31g skim milk mozzarella (2)

DSCN5279 DSCN5280 DSCN5281 DSCN5284

I may have also snacked on some salt and pepper popcorn this afternoon (3)

DSCN5265

Dinner was a spinach salad with 1oz chicken breast (1), cucumber, red onion, red & green pepper, tomato (0), 30g light cheddar (2) and 2 tbsp Renee’s wellness yogurt cucumber & dill dressing (2) – still LOVING that dressing

DSCN5299

It was followed by a granola bar I made yesterday (4)

DSCN5306

Not pictured is some cherry frozen yogurt that was taking up too much room in my freezer (3)

Total: 32 – I was freaking hungry today. Thank the lord for WPA’s!

Water: 3L

This evening’s adventure?

DSCN5288 DSCN5289 DSCN5291 DSCN5296

Chicklet is all clean!! BUT… her breath is HORRID lately. Has anyone ever had their dog’s teeth cleaned by a vet? What did it entail (did they get knocked out? Have to stay there long?)… how much did it cost?

Happy Monday!

Saturday…?

Oops, where did Saturday go?

It flew by!

Here’s breakfast:

DSCN5269 DSCN5270

And I made some granola bars…

DSCN5268 (the dry ingredients)

The evening was the movie “I love you, man”, Wii (including playing with people online. Yes, we define “cool”)… and Wild Wings. Alex tried a couple of different wings and I had a chicken wrap and Greek salad. Definitely won’t get “healthy” food there again. Next time Alex can get their DIVINE wings (I had 3 of them – so good!) and I’ll run next door to my beloved Subway.

Back to blog for today in a bit!

I’ve still been feeling excited from my Weight Watchers meeting last night.  It’s great to be excited to count POINTS again.

Dinner is going to be healthy pizza

Tonight’s plan is to watch some movies and eat some Kernels!  I got us cheesy dill and salt n’ vinegar.  I’m calling it Kernels n’ cuddles night… Alex, Chicklet and myself will all be cuddling on the couch with some Kernels and movies!!

Back to Basics

logo_weight_watchers

I have been a Weight Watchers member for lord knows how long now (years we’re talking) and I’ve never reached goal weight. After a year or two I stopped going to meetings. I felt like I had heard it all.  I loved the location I went to. It was in a senior’s home with big comfy chairs and a fire place to boot.  My leader was great.  I found, however, that it was all seniors who attended the meeting and they asked the same questions over and over each week. It started testing my patience.

I have ended up changing locations recently and decided last week that THIS would be the week I stay for a meeting again.

AWESOME!

The leader is a bit younger and easy to listen to. She’s not overly enthusiastic and speaks to us like adults. She doesn’t force anyone to talk and keeps it humorous. I loved it.

I felt so happy with my decision to stay for the meeting.  The topic was portion control.  I’m definitely guilty of eyeing over a potato or banana and guessing how many points it is.  It’s definitely inspired me to count everything this week (and all of them thereafter) and not just wing it or guess how much I’m eating.

I enjoyed my sub tonight and a bag of mini eggs.  I have taken no photos. I’ve been relaxing.  I’m solo tonight, which sucks… but these things happen.

Here’s what my sub looked like though (same thing every week!)

Green Eggs SANS Ham

♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣

HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY!!

♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣

I hope everyone has had a wonderfully green day and perhaps enjoyed some green beer or a real Irish beer (Guinness perhaps?).  I have behaved myself (such a bad Irish girl) as I drank beer AND wine on Friday.

Today I focused on eating healthy green food!

Breakfast was quick (I slept in thanks to a late night last night and being very tired today)… a green apple (1)

DSCN5204

Snack was dried kiwi (2) and dried green grape raisins (2)

DSCN5206 DSCN5207

Lunch was a spinach salad with cucumber (0), skim milk mozzarella (2) and Renee's Wellness Cucumber & Dill yogurt dressing, 2tbsp (2) – soooo good! Tastes like dill pickle chip dressing on my salad!

DSCN5208 DSCN5210

This is what lunch looks like… yep, I eat at my desk!

DSCN5211

Afternoon snack was GREEN edamame (2)

DSCN5221

Dinner was GREEN EGGS… SANS HAM (I don’t eat pork. Makes my tummy queezy!). I cooked up 6 egg whites with spinach (2) with a side of steamed veggies (0) and chicken breast (3)

DSCN5255

Dessert was a small banana (1) with a mix of Greek and Coconut Liberte (2) – no green. Oops.

DSCN5261

I even pulled off a walk at lunch today. 4km in 40min… not too bad for the start of the season (thank you Mr. Garmin for guidance)!  Some pictures from my pretty walk… including a new friend I made.  Note to self: update iPod and charge it. My walking friend has gone and got herself knocked up and is on mat leave… so I’m walking solo and it’s LONELY!

DSCN5232 DSCN5235 DSCN5241 DSCN5249 DSCN5250

Happy Thursday!  I have no predictions for Weigh In. It’s my oh-so-fun bloated week.  I have officially changed WW locations though and will stay for meetings again. I already look forward to my turkey sub with Alex!!
